We try not to step on those, or play those cards, until it’s time. “You try not to design a super futuristic-looking jersey, because that’s what the Stadium Series jersey is going to look like. “You try not to design a vintage-looking jersey for a team’s third, because that’s what the Winter Classic is going to look like,” Merrill explained. ![]() They knew they wanted to use an old Las Vegas font for the jersey numbers on the Golden Knights’ Reverse Retros, but they were still settling on which casino to draw inspiration from. The Adidas design team was searching for inspiration, and they found it in that sign. The Stardust opened in 1958 and was one of the headliner properties in old Las Vegas, hosting acts like Wayne Newton and Siegfried & Roy in its heyday, but the towers were eventually imploded in March 2007. The glimmering red letters of the old Stardust sign are one of the most impressive displays. ![]() The historical collection of brightly glowing, electrified glass tubes includes the towering, 45-foot guitar from the Hard Rock Cafe, the slender pink lettering from the old Moulin Rouge Hotel and the shimmering gold biscuit that once revolved above Jerry’s Nugget in the 1970s. “It was obvious that the use of graphics and signage from the neon signs of these casinos had to be incorporated. “It was so cool,” Matty Merrill, design director for Adidas hockey, told The Athletic. ![]()
